Religion is also a family affair in that people usually don't leave the religion they're brought up in; therefore, I suspect the OCD traits my also be hereditary, as well as learned. OCD - (and other mental illnesses) - is certainly a factor in many peoples' religiosity (and other obsessions).

Most Religion Is Just OCD
by metatron inthe more successful a religion is in holding on to its adherents, the more it exploits a human tendency towards ocd.. obsessive-compulsive disorder is a fancy name for habits of thinking that go too far.
like a computer that gets stuck in a .
programming loop, people get stuck thinking or doing the same things over and over.

List Reasons Why YOU Would NEVER Go Back To The "Truth"
by minimus ini recently saw my jw brother and sil and listened to them talk about poor sister sick(o) who has been diagnosed with major mental problems.
she went to the doctor's and the doctor supposedly began to berate her out of the blue because she is a jehovah's witness.
now the family wants to have the doctor formally rebuked for his so called "discriminatory comments".

The more I think about it and read about it, the creepier it seems. Where's the twilight zone music coming from?

I'm placing a Climax book with my new therapist
by oompa inyep, oompa started today with a new therapist who of course wanted to know if i had anything in particular that was the cause of me seeking his service.
so i kinda gave him a jwcult for dummy therapists cliffnotes version, and he seemed like he just couldn't believe some of it.
he understands my awakening has been difficult for me and the stress it has put on my wife and marriage/family.

good for you, oompa! I hope your therapist can handle it. The climax book sounds pretty intense. I can't believe they actually put that word in one of their book titles!

by Mrs Smith inmy son was about 5 years old when we stopped going to the meetings.
the other day i asked him what he remembers about them (his now 14 years old).
he remembered the puzzles i bought him to play with during the meetings.. he remembered that i packed a sandwich and some juice for him to eat in case he got hungry.. when he got board i use to take him outside for a walk around the kh garden.

I am so glad I never felt obliged to take my kid to any meetings. Jeez! Life is challenging enough without that crap.
I'm so glad for those who had sense to get out or to remember that kids have to be kids. Maybe things are changing a bit since I had to attend.
I'm also glad for those who got out and tried to make things right with their kids, and admitted their mistakes. We've all made them. I feel there's hope afterall.

I just hope he does not have a real Linda locked away somewhere.
What was that rhyme about Peter Peter Pumpkin Eater?
Had a wife and couldn't keep her.
So he put her in a pumpkin shell.
And there he kept her very well.

Trick or Treat anyone?
by lovelylil inis there anyone on the board who is celebrating halloween for the first time this year?.
this is my 2nd halloween i am doing since leaving the borg (almost 4 years ago now), but it is the first time i am decorating the outside of my home as well as giving out candy.
i hope some jdubs come by and work my street during the halloween season.

I was thinking of celebrating this year, but am unfamiliar with the nuances of Halloween. Tell me, what sort of costume is appropriate for a 28 year old man to wear when trick or treating? Is it in bad taste to specify which forms of treats are acceptable?
My third belly laugh today, John Doe. Thanks! -

On sending money and flowers to posters in loss . . .
by Happy Harvester inif what is going on with this "trevorgate" thing is true, i think it is best to simply make a donation to a good cause, instead of directly to the person, unless you have absoulute, direct contact with the situation entirely.
because of my awakenings about all of my own family and jw mental health issues - and in light of the info i've come across today about linda and trevor - i am inspired to make donations to nami and other mental health organizations in the name of "trevor s." and other deluded or abusive people who seriously need help.. there are enough stressors and depressers in my life, without trying to help people who have imaginary problems, (although i don't doubt they too need help - just not the kind of help i can offer!).
if a person or people are laughing at us for our desire to reach out, be humane, offer compassion and act as a family in the way that many of us have been denied by the wtb&ts, the person perpetrating the hoax is so deeply damaged that seeking to punish him/her is counterproductive; however, he/she definitely needs to be confronted and face the natural consequences.

Thank you for the response, Rabbit. Nice to meet you!
Also, I wish to reiterate that I was not suggesting we never help each other in times of trouble - just that we all need to be circumspect - as you have been, Rabbit, and as I have at times failed to be - on discussion boards.
